In March of 2002, a Mt Pleasant woman went to the hospital for abdominal pains. Her gallbladder was removed two days later. In the following months, she began suffering from sepsis and a perforation of the pouch at the start of the large intestine.
The woman died on July 30 of that same year. Recently, her family was awarded $1.8 million in the case they brought against the doctor who performed her surgery and the hospital she was admitted to.
