In Thomasville, North Carolina, a 22 month old child died at the Thomasville Medical Center emergency room in May of 2007. The child was brought in with fever, vomiting and diarrhea.
The child had a temperature of 103.2 degrees at 1am which rose to 105.7 degrees over the next hour. Instead of administering more tests, the physician discharged the child at 3:15am. The child was brought back to the emergency room later that day and was pronounced dead at 2:48pm. The hospital, attending physician and others are defendants in the case.
